For Goa, by Goans and of Goans: The Goan World Cup Anthem
A group of musicians from Goa have decided to express their love and emotion for the game of football and describe the passion that can be seen amongst Goan fans following the World Cup through original songs of their own. Café speaks to the man behind the video
Giving
tough competition to the rain is
the World Cup fever in Goa. If there are two things that have
been consistent this monsoon season it is the ups and downs at the FIFA World
Cup, and likewise, the monsoons have also had an unexpected start.
What is not surprising however is the kind
of love fans in Goa have shown for the game, right from travelling to Russia to
watch the World Cup live, to painting their houses in the colours of the team
they support and much more.
To capture this craze in Goa, a group of
musicians have come out with a song dedicated to the World Cup.
“As we all know, football especially the
World Cup event, is something that is passionately followed and adored my
people all over the world. And in Goa, it’s like football is in our blood. Yes,
our country hasn’t been able to make to the big stage yet so all of us here
have diversified preferenceswhen it comes to the teams we are supporting. But
at the end of all the day, it all comes down to one thing: The love of game,”
says Pio Agnelo Fernandes, the man behind the song.
“Hence, I, as a crazy football fan, along with Sabino Dias
(rapper), Melroy Rodrigues (music director) and Josephfern Dsouza (video
director), thought of coming up with a song on behalf of our state and our
country for FIFA World Cup this year,” he adds.
While describing the song, titled, ‘Goal Maar’ that has been
made under the banner of Sky Notes Production, Pio says it is a groovy track
with our mother tongue, Konkani, at the forefront. They have strived to keep
things as per international levels.
“We hope people will have our song on their lips this World Cup
as they support their favourite team,”says Pio.
The cinematography and editing has been done by Pankaj
Karapurkar, while it was recorded, mixed and mastered at Beat Space Studio,
Navelim.
Pio,
who has been in the sports and fitness business for the last 12 years and has a
sports shop at Fatorda, is the singer in the video and has composed the lyrics,
while one of Goa’s rising stars who has created a niche for himself, Sabino
Dias, is credited with the rap lyrics that have also been sung by him.
