There are a myriad views about beauty pageants

and fashion shows lately and there have been some changes in the way these events are held these days. Against that backdrop, Goa is about to witness a very different and a unique fashion show.

The name itself is a giveaway that this will be no ordinary event: ‘The Beauty and The Feast’.

The event, to be held on June 23, 2018 at Sterling Hotel Goa, from 5pm to 8pm, is being curated by Shenergy, a unique initiative on women empowerment that gives women and young adults a platform to display their diverse talents, network, share their stories, get initiated into entrepreneurship, promote their ventures and pool in their resources for social causes.

The group consists of a lager number of women from various backgrounds.

“‘The Beauty & The Feast is Shenergy’s fourth event in Goa.It is a fashion show that celebrates beauty the way it comes, in all shapes, sizes, and colours,with models coming from within our society instead of professional models,” says SonuDabral, the founder of Shenergy.

Through this show,they want to break stereotypes regarding beauty and fashion and aims at celebrating beauty of all differentshapes, sizes and colour.

“We believe that any scars related to how one looksremain deeply entrenched in the psyche and manifest themselves into poor self image and even chronic depression in life.We also feel that fashion is for all! It should be wearable, affordable, functional and accessible to all. Not just for a certain body sizeand not just for the ramp,” adds Sonu.

Through this fashion show, Shenergy is aiming at giving an opportunity to new and upstart designers as they believe that this visibility will be very useful to these designers and they can benefit from this platform.

Their showstopper for the show is an exclusive Shenergy piece, which includes the works of painters and poets.

Shenergy also believes that this show will give an opportunity to all to walk the ramp and showcase the beauty within them and how that ties with their core belief, their objective of encouraging women to feel good about themselves and to enhance their confidence.“It is a fun filled event where women and young adults come together collectively as a community and ‘shenergise’ their positive energy for a good cause,” says Sonu.

The event will also have a lot of live acts, including many performers, from Zumba to Kathak,as well as singers, stand up comedy and other women displaying their diverse talents.

The group will also be working with the COOJ Foundation Goa. “We will also be promoting COOJ, an NGO that is working tirelessly in the field of mental health, senior citizen care and also runs a suicide helpline,” adds Sonu.

The group will also be unveiling a ‘Shenergy’ line of clothing, the proceeds of which will go to charity.

It is to be noted that among the many goals, initiatives and objectives Shenergy has been working towards,as a platform, they are also working at building groups wherein women support each other and help other women,especially from the lower income groups, to become entrepreneurs; they have in place volunteers and leaders in different cities who can actively work towards the goal.The idea is also to help women to initiate into entrepreneurship and make their passions their paychecks and to promote those who are already doing it.
