As India
completes 71 years
of Independence,
‘Gaur Army’,known as the the 12th Man of FC Goa, started the celebrations in
the most beautiful way ever with a unique rendition of the Indian National
Anthem on August 13, 2018, in the run up toIndependence Day.
In its continued
efforts to reach out to every section of their football family, this time, the
Gaur Army, FC Goa’s supporters club, made the 72nd Independence Day even more
special not only for FC Goa but by large the entire community.
What made it stand
out was the fact that special children who are students from Margao-based
Gujarati Samaj School for Handicapped performed the Indian National Anthem in
sign language at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, Fatorda and those who have seen
it have praised the heart-warming and great gesture.
The video of the same
will be released on all social media platforms including YouTube, Facebook and
Instagram pages of the Gaur Army.
Another reason why
this rendition is a special one is because the background music was composed by
a Goan musician, well-known santoor player Naresh Madgaokar, former Voice of
Goa Sabino Dias, tabla artiste Vaishnav Shanbag and Sidharth Mehta. The video
has beenedited by Arpit Verma.
Speaking on the
occasion, Member of Gaur Army,Sidharth Mehta, while thanking the Sports
Authority of Goa (SAG) authorities for permission to shoot the video in the
stadium, said, “Gaur Army is a family of FC GOA and has a vision that
football’s overall fan culture and development will be only complete when our
‘divyangjan’ becomes an integral part of it and comse forward in the nation
building.” Another member, John Lloyd Dias, further said, “Well no matter how
many versions of our national anthem are made, this will always be the most
heart-warming and emotional rendition, which will stay close to our hearts.”
Another
key member of Gaur Army, Conrad Barreto, while speaking to the media said that
this activity was a way of showing how football fans who may not be as loud in
the stadium are certainly active in uniting the nation in one voice. Another
die hard FC Goa fan from Vasco, Abhishek Sawant, said,”Such platforms like Gaur
Army have given new wings to the football culture in Goa with chanting culture
and away trips, appealing all Goans to join Gaur Army.”
