TOMORROW’S YESTERDAY IS FINALLY HERE
After two decades in the music industry, rock band Bad Blood is releasing their original debut album, ‘Tomorrow’s Yesterday’, featuring songs that include an Indian touch with a tabla and sarangi. Café speaks to band leader Nixon Soares to know more
Bad
Blood as a rock band in Goa needs no introduction.
They have been around for 22 years,
entertaining rock music lovers at events ranging from rock festivals to college
shows. Their debut album, ‘Tomorrow’s Yesterday’, was long pending but the band
is happy that the release is taking place at a time when the band and rock
music is peaking in India. ‘Tomorrow’s Yesterday’ will feature seven songs,
five English and two Konkani songs. The songs include, ‘Should I?’, ‘Angel’,
‘Tomorrow’s Yesterday’, Fight your Fears’, ‘King of Spades’, an acoustic
version of ‘ Tomorrow’s Yesterday’ and ‘Abgatt Kelo’ as a tribute to Chris
Perry and Lorna in a rock version.
The band comprises members from different
parts of Goa and many who are members of other Goan bands as well. Rock music
is their passion, keeping Bad Blood together for over two decades. The band is
lead by guitarist Nixon Soares from Navelim; vocalist Balsio Pinto and drummer
Aurvile Rodrigues, both from Margao, are also members of the band Skyhigh;
bassist Anthony Fernz from Vasco has a day job as an accounts head while
keyboardist Frazer Pacheco from Margao has a music production company; both are
also members of the band Lynx. The newest member to join the band is
19-year-old Prathamesh Chari on the tabla.
“We needed to have an Indian identity so that when we perform
for an audience outside the country, our sound should be unique; that is how
Prathamesh was introduced to the band. He has played with the likes of
Sivamani. Our 2017 performance at the UK and Wales tour reflected this Indian
sound,” says Nixon.
Their first video, ‘Tomorrow’s Yesterday’, was aired on VH1,
Pepsi MTV Indies and 9xO, making them the first Goan rock band to have their
video aired on national television. In 2014, they set out on their first tour
to England, Ireland and Scotland, where they performed their original songs to
a whole new type of crowd and the songs were gladly accepted, encouraging the
band to finally get down to bringing out their first album.
To throw light as to why the album took so long, Nixon explains,
“We always wanted to write about Goa and many were happy with wedding music and
songs. We wanted to bring out rock music in Konkani too. The album was recorded
in Goa and remastered in the US.” The band was on their second tour of UK and
Wales in 2017 and will next be heading to Romania and Germany with their album.
The
album will be launched at the ninth edition of the Rock in Goa concert
organised by Rockbugs Goa, which will be held on March 24, 2018 from 5pm
onwards at Quinta de Valadres, Verna. Rock acts like Noxious Ire, Within Ceres,
Prolife, SonicZone and Kashmir will perform. Bad Blood will be performing along
with Point of View, one of the Best Rock Band in UAE, which was handpicked by
Guns N Roses to open for them in Dubai during their tour.
