Dolcy D’Cruz
Cielda Pereira
feels most
comfortable in a serene setting,
listening to Gospel music and
so it’s
no surprise that her first album
is one full
of musical gratitude to the higher power.
‘Devachem Hatantlem’
is the fruit
of two years of hard work of this h
umble and god fearing
young singer
and she is extremely happy with the end result.
The album, released under
Bee Gee Productions
,
Margao
,
features 12 songs
that include
her songs as well as those sung by
upcoming singers like Larsen Gracias, Shunaina
Baptista, Gladrin Fernandes and Rueben Kakde. The music is by Armando Rodrigues
and Canon D’Souza with lyrics by Michael Gracias
. The album
was recorded at Veltune Studio,
Benaulim and Cannonmusic Studios, Goa Velha.
The album features a
duet
,
‘Devachem Dennem’
,
by Cielda and her mother, Joanita
, as well as
a trio, ‘Soimba Koddem Khell’
,
by Fr Tomas Lobo, Fr Anthony
Rodrigues and Fr Eusico Pereira. The concluding song in the album is
‘Kolejichea Poileach Disa’, a
mando rendition by Svadik Nad, Majorda,
which also includes
dulpods to the
beats
of
the
ghumot
t
. Cielda has been a part of the group
and has performed at competitions
with them
.
The d
aughter of Caitano and Joanita
Pereira, Cielda
, who hails from
Betalbatim
, has two
younger siblings,
Jewel
and Hassler. Her grandfather
,
Matues
,
was a
khell tiatrist and the
family has
always
been musically inclined
,
with Cielda
being part of
the
church
choir and the Mando group Svadik Nad
from a very young age
. She has been singing since the age
of four years
.
Cielda shot to fame after singing in the award
winning film,
Nachom-ia Kumpasar and winning
Herald
Group’s
Konkani
singing competition
,
Goencho Avaz
. This was followed
by
playback singing
opportunities
for Konkani films like
Nirmonn,
Noshaa and
Soul Curry.
“When N
achom-ia Kumpasar was released and
people heard my voice through the various songs in the film, they would ask me
when
if I had plans of releasing
my own album. I knew what I wanted in the album but
I didn’t know where to go to get the album done. Michael Gracias, the producer
of the album, told me that he would write the songs for me and we worked
together on the
it
,” says
Cielda who hopes to work on more albums in the future.
Cielda was the winner of the first edition of
Goencho
Avaz. “
Goencho Avaz is a great platform for young talent. I sang the
song, ‘Abgant Kello’
,
which
was
made famous
by
Lorna. After winning the competition, many people started calling me the second
Lorna. For me, Lorna is Lorna and Cielda is Cielda. We both are unique and I
wanted to break away from that tag. I wanted to sing original songs and create
my own name in the music
industry.
Herald Group
has given me
and numerous youngsters
that
opportunity to reach out to the whole of Goa,” she explains.
Her message to
youngsters
interested in singing
is to
sing in Konkani. “Konkani is
the
language of our ancestors and
youngsters should continue singing in Konkani,” concludes Cielda, who graduated
with six units in Konkani.
