109 new COVID cases detected at Mopa airport project site

PERNEM: Mopa Airport project site has turned into a COVID hotspot as 109 new cases were detected on Thursday.

Mass testing at Mopa Airport site was carried out on Thursday in which 109 people were found to have contracted the infection taking the tally of cases to 139 at the site.

In Pernem taluka, 140 cases have been detected in Mandrem, followed by 100 in Pernem town and 139 at the airport site.

On Thursday, Pernem town and Corgao reported three cases each, Allorna and Dhargal recorded two cases each and Virnoda, Parsem, Morjim and Mandrem reported one each. The total number of cases detected in Pernem taluka till date are 1,048 while 10 people from Pernem taluka have lost their lives due to the infection.

Meanwhile, till date there is no sign of making the 140-bed COVID Care Centre operational at Sawalwada, Pernem. 

The concerned MLAs had assured to make the centre operational last week but have failed to do so.
