VALPOI/ BICHOLIM: A police constable and a motorcyclist from Assagao died in two separate accidents, on Wednesday.

In the first accident that occurred at Solye in Sattari, Constable Mahendra Gawade, 33, died on the spot after hitting against a truck.

Gawade was attached to CID crime branch office at Bicholim and was assigned the beat of Poriem constituency. He was reportedly on routine patrolling at around 1.40 pm on his motorcycle at Solye, when a truck suddenly entered the main road from nowhere at a sharp turn.

Due to the sudden entry of the truck right in front of him, Gawade reportedly lost control of his two-wheeler and hit against the rear wheel of the truck.

Gawade reportedly suffered serious head injuries in the accident and died on the spot.

Valpoi police conducted a panchanama of the accident site, attached the truck and arrested its driver Harichandra Yanamppa. The body of Gawade has been sent to GMC for post mortem. Incidentally, Gawade is native of Solye village.

Police Inspector Deepak Pednekar is investigating the case.

In the second accident, a 46-year-old motorcyclist from Assagao in Mapusa, was hit by an oncoming car at Bordem, Bicholim, and died on the way to GMC hospital at Bambolim.

The victim Premanand Shripad Sawant was proceeding from Assonora to Bicholim on his motorcycle at around 9.45 am and on reaching Bordem he was hit by an oncoming car.

Sawant was taken to GMC at Bambolim with serious injuries. However, he died before reaching the hospital. The police have registered an offence against the car driver, Rajendra Mandrekar from Mulgao, Bicholim. PSI Harish Gawas is investigating the case.
