2 security guards held for assault on Calangute P’yat member’s son

CALANGUTE: Two persons were arrested by Calangute Police for allegedly assaulting the son of a Calangute Village Panchayat member at Baga in the wee hours of Saturday.

Calangute Police said, “The incident occurred at around 2.30 am. An offence under Sections 504, 323 IPC and Section 8 of Goa Children’s Act was registered at 6.45 am after Calangute Panch Mathias D’Souza lodged a complaint that his son had been assaulted by two security guards of a beachside hotel at Baga. The accused have also claimed that they were assaulted.” 

D’Souza, who owns a beach shack, said his son along with a companion after watching a movie had gone to their beach shack near the crowded Tito’s lane for a late meal. On their way back, they were suddenly assaulted by two security staff of a beachside hotel for no reason, due to which they received minor injuries. 

The accused, Sachin Chawan, a resident of Calangute and Arun Chawan, a resident of Arady, Candolim, both natives of Bijapur, Karnataka, were arrested at 9 am, remanded in judicial custody and later released.
