79.96% voter turnout recorded in P’yat by-polls

PANJIM: An overall 79.96 per cent polling was recorded in bye-election to seven wards of different village panchayats on Saturday. The highest 94.93 per cent polling was recorded in ward VII of Barcem-Quedem Village Panchayat in Quepem Taluka.

The second highest 88.61 per cent polling was recorded in Ward II of Kalay Village Panchayat followed by 85.91 per cent polling in Balli-Adnem Village Panchayat.  

The percentage of polling recorded in other wards are as follows 78.56 per cent in Ward VI of Ona-Maulinguem-Kudchirem Village Panchayat, 81.11 per cent in Ward V of Velguem Village Panchayat,  62.98 per cent in Ward II of Orlim Village Panchayat, 56.82 per cent in Rachol Village Panchayat.

The State Election Commission (SEC) said that the polling was held in a smooth and peaceful manner in all seven polling booths.

No untoward incidents were reported during the poll and polling process remained peaceful, it said.

Meanwhile, the counting of votes will be held on Monday, March 27 from 8 am onwards at the notified counting centres.
