PANJIM: With 54 inches of rainfall already received, Goa has got 26 per cent above normal rain and almost half of its annual average for the current monsoon season in just a little over a month.

Abundant rains lashed Goa since late Thursday night with the State recording nearly seven inches of rainfall in 48 hours ending 8.30am on Saturday. There were complaints of water logging, uprooting of trees across Goa.

IMD said that the monsoon currents have been strong over Goa due to the presence of an offshore trough at mean sea level from north Maharashtra coast to Kerala coast. Also, there is a circulation over west central Bay of Bengal.

Fishermen have been advised against venturing into the sea till July 8 due to rough weather conditions.
