PANJIM: For the second consecutive year, the feast of Ascension of Jesus Christ into heaven at the Panjim Church will be held without the congregation.

Along with it, the famous “Purumentachem Fest” fair in the capital city near the church of Our Lady of Immaculate Conception will not be held as well.

Speaking about the feast mass this coming Sunday, May 16, Fr Walter De Sa, Panjim Parish Priest said there will be one mass only at 9 am. This will not be held live but the recording of it will be telecast for the public on CCRTV. The mass will have a sermon and the Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament.

The Benediction will happen at the end of the feast mass. The feast of Ascension is held 40 days after the resurrection of Jesus and has been celebrated at the church annually.

“On the 40th day, Jesus went up to heaven and is now seated at the Right Hand of God the Father,” said Fr Walter.

“The Ascension of the Lord indicates the power of God who raised him up from the dead and made him sit at his Right Hand in heaven.”

Terming it as a universal feast, Fr Walter explained that spiritual celebration is the solemnity of the Ascension of the Risen Lord, is the second major feast in their Parish while the first one is the feast of Our Lady of Immaculate Conception, patroness of their parish, which is celebrated on December 8.
