QUEPEM: A special meeting called by the Curchorem-Cacora Municipal Council (CCMC) unanimously resolved to approach the Directorate of Municipal Administration (DMA) on the issue of new tender for garbage collection within the municipal limits.

The CCMC deliberated on whether the municipality should tender the garbage collection to a contractor to as earlier or whether the civic body should hire around 45 labourers and take on the responsibility of garbage collection by itself. Caught in a fix, the CCMC unanimously resolved to seek the DMA’s advice on the process of garbage collection.

Informing about the issue, CCMC councillor Pradip Naik said that the reason for calling the special meeting is that the current tender of garbage collection will be end on December 31 and the future course of action on the issue is yet to be decided. He further informed that the agenda was placed in the last month’s meeting, however due to some reason the council did not discuss the issue and a decision couldn’t be reached and thus a special meeting was called to discuss the process.

“We discussed two possibilities and have taken a resolution to seek the advice of the DMA on the matter. We will place before the DMA the two options and also how we had undertaken garbage collection last time. Accordingly, keeping in mind the best option financially for the municipality a decision will be taken,” he added.
