Filthy Margao railway station

We have recently returned to Goa from a trip to Southern Maharashtra via Kudal railway station. My husband and I remarked for a low tourism, provincial railway station on how clean it was with men picking up garbage whenever possible from the platform railway lines.

After our two-hour journey south to Margao we slowly pulled in to the station and noticed how filthy the approaching sidings and lines were, an utter disgrace when one considers the respective tourist numbers for both stations.

Recently, in the Herald, there was a couple of features that caught my eye, a photograph of garbage strewn around the Dayanand Bandodkar Memorial, Miramar and a piece from Mr A M Barbosa where he comments "Goa's tourism has to be upped a couple of notches". Well said Mr Barbosa but unfortunately that is all we ever hear.

Actions speak louder than words Goa! On a slightly separate issue which is going to take much needed action against the ‘dacoit’ taxi drivers at Dabolim airport.

Their plundering of tired arriving tourists with their exorbitant fares is another disgrace and does not paint a good picture of a tranquil, friendly Goa.

These thieves know the tourists arriving here after long flights have no option but to pay up to their demands and they must be brought to book!
