Mapusa’s open drains are stinking

Many drains in and around the Mapusa Municipal Market are left open posing a danger to pedestrians and also a health hazard.

Many drains in and around the Mapusa Municipal Market are left open posing a danger to pedestrians and also a health hazard.

In a video being circulated on WhatsApp a vegetable vendor is shown washing coriander stalks in the open sewage drain and taking them to the vegetable market for sale.

A citizen after noticing this vendor washing the basket of coriander leaves in the gutter water, raised an alarm. Some others joined the citizen and went looking for the man who had washed the coriander in the gutter. After a search in the whole market they found him and ordered him to throw out the big basket of the coriander bundles or they would call the police. Having no choice, the vendor quietly lifted the basket and threw the coriander bundles in the garbage.

Can the Mapusa Municipality and the Goa Government look into this matter and close these stinking drains which the Mapxemkars have to bear with each time they pass by the market?
