Overbridge at Chandor, not underpass

Citizen Joaquim Da Costa, Guirdolim

For the last 30 to 50 years the people of Guirdolim have been literally begging with every government that comes to power at State as well as centre to built a railway overbridge at Chandor railway crossing, but not a single  government is interested in  fulfilling the dreams of the people.

Every  gram sabha at Guirdolim panchayat passes  resolution to  build a railway overbridge at Chandor railway crossing, as  every day more than 2000 to 3500 four-wheelers, trucks, buses and two-wheelers pass over the existing railway crossing.

The govt and railway authorities seem to have closed their eyes. The gates of railway crossing close every 15 minutes to allow the goods as well as passenger train to pass.

Now some people are demanding an underpass at the existing railway crossing, which is not feasible as it will be flooded during rainy seasons. Besides, residents of Guirdolim who hire big buses to attend funeral or mass at Chandor church will not be able to cross if the underpass was built.

It has been noted that every underpass built at railway crossing in the state such as Seraulim, Comba and Majorda is flooded during rainy seasons, which make it difficult for people as well as vehicles to cross due to water logging. Underpass will make the matter worse for the buses as well as trucks.

The government and the railway authorities should built the full-fledged railway over bridge at existing railway crossing as there is ample of land available at these railway crossing,  and not the underpass,  without much delay, as it will not only  benefit  the people of Guirdolim, but also the surrounding areas like Curtorim, Curchorem , Quepem Macazana , Chandor etc and all those who frequent the route.
