Parking vehicles on the road behind Navelim church a health hazard

Citizen Reginaldo Diniz Navelim

When you travel and take the road from Rosary Church, Navelim, cross the Post Office, immediately after the Bank of Baroda (Navelim Branch) the road takes a sharp left turn to go to the Konkan Railway station, Margao. The road on this sharp turn just before the district library is used as a parking lot.

It appears that the owners/drivers of vehicles do not know the danger of parking vehicles on a sharp turn. People of Navelim are taken for a joy ride as mere spectators of these terrible traffic violations. One of the bus owners/drivers is from the Konkan Railway station, Margao pay parking contract fame but it is surprising that he does not know how and where to park his own vehicles.

This is the place where accidents are waiting to happen. Being a by-pass and since heavy vehicles are not permitted on the Margao flyover, this route is frequented by Ammonia and Chlorine tankers, inflammable Bharat, Hindustan and Indian Oil petroleum and gas tankers, aviation fuel tankers and LPG cylinder lorries and other heavy trucks of merchandise and trailers transporting raw materials and hazardous chemicals to different industrial estates. The residents of Navelim living nearby are exposed to great risk and peril if an accident does take place. Authorities should take necessary action to remove the parked vehicles from the road as prevention is better than cure.

The parked vehicles create side problems too. After every trip the left overs of tourists/picnickers such as plastic bottles and bags, bear cans and bottles etc. are swept from the bus and emptied on the road. The parked vehicles also provide a shield for open defecation. All our efforts to keep area clean go in vain.
