VALPOI: After much delay, Shelpe villagers have finally got the water filtration plant in the village.

Sarpanch Parag Khadilkar inaugurated the water filtration plant, installed by the Water Supply Department, Valpoi near village bore well, on Monday.

Ironically, villagers in Shelpe, Valpoi were drinking unhygienic water for the past decade, which resulted in various sicknesses including a common water-borne disease last year called Shigella.

Last year the MLA and Health Minister Vishwajit Rane visited Shelpe village and assured the villagers that he would provide filter water to Shelpe villagers and also promised to install a direct water pipeline from Dabose Water Treatment plant.

As per his promise, Rane has installed the water filtration plant in Shelpe village, which  will provide filter water to the entire Shelpe village.

Villagers say they have already put up the proposal for direct water pipeline in Shelpe village, which will provide 24-hour water supply to the Shelpe village and the MLA has recommended the proposal to the PWD Minister Sudin Dhavalikar.

It will take one year to complete all the process and work, Sarpanch Nagargao Panchayat Parag Khadilkar said.

The Shelpe village filtration plant has cost around Rs 20 lakh and it filters 50 cubic meter per day. The filtration plant would be attached to the village bore well and frequent samples of filtrate water would be taken to the laboratory.

According to the assistant engineer water would be supplied to the village only after the test and seeing the test report.
