PERNEM: There are two separate gates for entry and exit of vehicles for the newly constructed Pernem Bus Stand, but only one gate is being used for entry and exit of the buses and since only one way is used for entry and exit, life of daily commuters is at risk especially when the buses exit from the no entry road.

Buses that enter into the main Pernem city take whole circle of the old bus stop and then depot at the bus stand. However, when the buses exit from the bus stand, they do not take whole circle but short cut through the no entry road putting the life of the commuters coming from opposite direction at risk.

A local Rudresh Naik said, “If the bus entering into the city takes the whole circle and then enters into the bus stand then buses which exit should also take whole circle and leave. Taking shortcut by the buses through no entry road is dangerous for people especially two wheeler riders since the entry and exit point is located on turn and a junction where almost four roads meet up.”

A daily commuter Rahul Sawant said,” because of single entry and exit point, buses which go to Morjim, Keri and Patradevi pass through the main market area which is actually the proper route. However, the buses which go to Mapusa, Panjim and other destinations leave from no entry road putting people’s life at risk. When the vehicles enter main city from Mapusa side, the buses which exit and move towards Mapusa direction criss-cross at the junction but till now no accidents have occurred. But should we wait for an accident or any incident to occur for authorities to take action?

“There are two separate entry and exit gates but still only one gate is used for entry and exit. We don’t understand why the other point is not used for exit. If buses are removed from the other point and traffic police handles the movement of vehicles than there won’t be chance for traffic congestions which are taking place now,” Suresh Desai said.
