Traffic signal not followed at new Mapusa Flyover Bridge

Prior to building of new Bastora-Mapusa Flyover Bridge, it was a cross junction high and low ways road, but was an accident prone zone. During the heavy traffic hours; there was often fatal accidents, and vehicular collusion. Due to public outcry and demand for a flyover bridge, the then Manohar Parrikar Government had taken up the infrastructure to make an accident free zone.

(Seen in the photograph), the flyover bridge has 1+1 divider rout equipped with automatic circuit signals showing the traffic “Stop” and “Go”, also it is followed to bridge side way traffic route.

When any one side signal gives “Stop”, the motorist (traffic) duty bound to stand by for two seconds only – many traffic rules abiding motorists obey and respect the signals, and some disobey it violating and speeding up causing hindrance and confusion to other side “Go” traffic route. It can cause one day fatal accident and vehicular collusion. The traffic signals are not controlled by manpower; so it is mandatory the motorist should obey and respect it.

Still, for this infamous zone precautionary measures are needed; as there is no manpower traffic authority to supervise, and hence had become ‘freedom movement’ for some motorist to break (violate) the traffic signals. It will be good at some intervals, the traffic police in plain clothes or full uniform are made to patrol the site to book the traffic signal violators.

It is not much necessary to book the helmet and seat belt violators only, but here there is a need also to provide safety.

I request Mapusa Traffic Police Inspector to do the needful in the above mentioned place at the earliest to make the site an accident free zone.
