When will we get good roads?

A matter regarding branches of a tree touching electrical wires near Almeida High School in Ponda was published in this column on Monday, April 9.

Most of the roads in Goan cities and villages are in a bad condition even after being hot-mixed as the PWD department allows the digging without ensuring its repair.

Ironically, the PWD water pipeline goes right from the middle of the road, the telephone cables and other mobile company cables too are also taken from the road. Besides, the electricity department and also sewage treatment line pass right from the middle of the road.

So when there is a problem or repair issue, the companies and all other departments have to dig the main roads to repair the damage pipe or a cable. Whom do we blame? All seem to pointing their fingers to one another.

I think the PWD department, PWD Minister, Panchayat office, Municipality are all mainly responsible for this problem and therefore they should ensure that citizens are not put to hardships because of their poor planning and mistakes in implementation.

Should they not be filling the pot-holes and hot-mix the road before the beginning of the rainy season? Why inconvenience the people who pay their taxes and abide by rules and regulations?. The Goa government should stop the blame games and try to give good roads to the people of Goa. Is that too much to ask? Why are they not being held accountable?
