MAPUSA: A jail guard attached to Colvale Central Jail tested positive for COVID on Sunday. This is the third COVID positive case reported in the jail.

Sources informed that the concerned jail guard after reporting for duty on Sunday morning complained of feeling feverish. The in-house doctor conducted a check up and advised him to undergo COVID test. After undergoing the test at District Hospital, Mapusa, the guard tested positive for COVID.

Immediately, other jail guards on duty also underwent COVID tests, but their reports came negative.  The jail authorities have advised the people, who came in contact with the infected person to undergo COVID tests, which include a few inmates.

Ashutosh Apte, Additional Inspector General of Prisons said," A jail guard is tested positive. Staff and the inmates, who came in close contact with this jail guard, have been asked to undergo testing. Jail guards from duty batch of the infected person had undergone testing and their reports came negative".

It may be recalled that a jail guard from Valpoi and IRB staff from Vasco attached to Colvale Jail had tested positive for COVID earlier.
