Colvale police conduct surprise drive to check tenant verification status, seven held

MAPUSA: Cracking the whip on tenants failing to submit verification forms, the Colvale police on Saturday arrested seven suspects for not submitting their verification forms and rounded up another 43 persons for not getting verified under tenant verification. 

Colvale PI Somnath Majik along with his staff under the supervision of Mapusa DySP Jivba Dalvi and North SP Nidhin Valsan conducted an extensive tenant verification drive at Auchitwado, Tivim, also a place known as 'Lala ki basti'. 

During the door-to-door search, 43 persons were rounded up and asked to report to the police station for not filing their tenant verification forms, which is mandatory by law. Police have also registered cases under Section 188 of the IPC for violation of orders of the District Magistrate against each house owner, who had rented their premises out to tenants, and failed to submmit the forms. The police also arrested seven persons identified as Chandan Kumar Gond (29), Sikandar Ali, (23), Meraj Ahamad (19), Arshad Husen (22), Tasour Husen (26) and Kishan Gupta (20), all natives of Uttar Pradesh, and Anil Singh (19) from Madhya Pradesh, who were residing in ‘Lala ki basti’ at Auchit waddo, Tivim, for failing to produce their identity documents, and also because their behaviour was found to be suspicious.  All the seven persons were placed under arrest under section 41 CrPC and a report is will be submitted against each arrestee to the Mapusa Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM).  

Mapusa SDPO Jivba Dalvi said, “This type of tenant verification drives will be conducted randomly in other areas within the jurisdiction of Mapusa Sub-Division in order to carry out effective policing and ensure that 100 per cent 

tenant verification is carried out.” 

All owners of houses and gueshouses have been asked to submit duly filled out verification forms within 24 hours. The Colvale police added that tenant verification information helps them solve crimes and apprehend criminals.
