PANJIM: The Congress leaders on Saturday declined to give any undertaking to police stating that they will not disrupt the ongoing Indian Super League (ISL) tournament.

The Congress leaders had earlier this week threatened to disrupt the ISL matches demanding that all the tournament related contracts should be given to the Goans.

The party workers had even halted blocked Mumbai City FC team bus at Nagao Panchayat Ground and the players were not allowed to proceed with their training session by the workers.

Goa Pradesh Congress Committee President Girish Chodankar had on Saturday early morning tweeted that the police visited the houses of Congress workers demanding for an undertaking from them assuring that they will not protest and cause further disturbance during ISL matches.

The Congress delegation led by Vice President Sankalp Amonkar called on Director General of Police Mukesh Kumar Meena, wherein they refused to give the undertaking.

“Only the Goans should be employed in ISL services, if this is not done in future we will protest during the matches, we don’t want to give any undertaking, if the police wants they can arrest us. We are ready to get arrested for the Goans,” Amonkar told the reporters after meeting.

He said that it was the responsibility of the government to hold meeting with the ISL officials and direct to employ the Goans.

“But since the government failed to do so, Congress under the leadership of Digambar Kamat held the meeting in which the ISL officials agreed to hire Goan services for ISL,” Amonkar said.

The Congress has said that they will wait till Monday, November 23, to see the response of the ISL organisers, failing which the protest will resume.
