MARGAO: Congress on Monday demanded that the government should release a white paper on financial position of the State and for a rollover Budget 2020-21 with focus on reviving the economy.

The party also urged for pumping in resources in the agriculture, horticulture, animal husbandry, fisheries sectors, rural employment and social welfare schemes.

Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) President Girish Chodankar said, “We are well aware of the mismanagement in administration since 2012, huge borrowings and mass corruption has pushed the State economy to bankruptcy. Now, the issue of COVID-19 pandemic has added woes to it, making financial position worst leading to financial emergency in the State which we had predicted and warned the government in November 2019.”

“The mismanagement of administration since 2012, by running the affairs from the hospital and through proxy Chief Minister has contributed in unprecedented liabilities of nearly Rs 24,000 crore resulted into per capital liabilities of Rs 1,50,000. Leader of Opposition Digambar Kamat and I have time and again demanded for a release of white paper on financial status of the State. But, till date the government have not responded to the same. This act is most unfortunate and displays arrogance and high handedness,” accused Chodankar.

Chodankar said, “Unless a white paper is released and expert opinions are sought on the financial crisis, it is not possible to find solutions to the economic disasters of the State.”
