PANJIM: The Congress party office bearers on Wednesday held a morcha against the Directorate of Social Welfare as well as Directorate of Accounts over the non-release of financial benefits under the Deen Dayal Social Security Scheme (DDSSY) to the beneficiaries in the last six to seven months.

The opposition has threatened to hold protests along with the senior citizens, if the payments are not released by October 31.

The protest was led by party general secretary Sankalp Amonkar and Amarnath Panjikar, who charged the officials of the Social Welfare and Accounts Department of misleading the public on the benefits.

Speaking to reporters, Amonkar said that both the departments are passing the bucks pointing at each other over non-release of payment since March.

“The Social Welfare Deputy Director informed us that all the details, on monthly basis, have been submitted to the Accounts department for the release of payment to the beneficiaries. Now, why the payments are not been made, we are not aware,” Amonkar said.

“Whereas, the Deputy Director Accounts, says that they have not received any details from social welfare for release of payment. The officer claims that there is enough money with the department to release the benefits under DDSSY, Griha Adhar; however, we are not getting details from the concerned departments,” he added.

Amonkar alleged that it’s been nearly six to seven months that the beneficiaries are waiting for their monthly financial support.
