MARGAO: Tourism Minister Manohar Ajgaonkar’s proposal to temporarily shift Gandhi Market vendors in Margao to the footpath at Ravindra Bhavan has invited criticism.

The minister had proposed that to prevent the potential spread of Coronavirus and by maintaining social distancing, the Gandhi Market vendors be temporarily shifted to the footpath at Ravindra Bhavan.

However, the local Councillor Glen Andrade said, “The tourism minister who was underground and missing in the Coronavirus crisis in Pernem, has suddenly emerged here in Margao. He along with the Chief Officer of the Margao municipality wants to convert our glorious opinion poll square into Gandhi Market II and wants to make it a Coronavirus hot spot of Salcete.”

“I have spoken to Fatorda MLA Vijaibab, who on reading the newspaper had already questioned the MMC chief officer. The CO has taken this decision on minister’s pressure without taking the council and the local councillor in confidence,” Andrade said.

Andrade also urged people to start a trend on facebook opposing the move.
