PANJIM: The High Court of Bombay at Goa has dismissed a petition objecting to the draft limitation list of panchayat wards in a North Goa village for the upcoming panchayat elections.

Petitioners Roshan Mathais and Anthony D’Souza had filed a writ petition alleging they were given a hearing by Electoral Registration Officer on their objections dated March 4, 2022 to the draft delimitation list of panchayat wards in village Candolim for the general elections to panchayats 2022. The petitioners had earlier moved the ERO alleging that the draft delimitation list is contrary to the Goa Panchayat and Zilla Panchayat (election procedure) Rules, 1996.

“The said act of respondent no. 3 (ERO) of not granting a personal hearing to the petitioners on their objections is in violation of petitioner’s rights under Article 14 of the Indian Constitution,” the petition stated.
