Director of Mines inspects first aid training academy in Ponda

PONDA: The Directorate General of Mines Safety (DGMS), Ministry of Labour and Employment inspected Dr Dhaimodker –IMA First Aid Training Academy at Ponda, recently. 

The inspection was conducted following the request for the ‘recognition’ by the academy as an institute for imparting first aid training to mine workers.

“The academy will not just cater to workers from Goa, but also workers from neighbouring States namely Maharashtra and Karnataka,” Dr Vallab Dhaimodker said.

Dr Kaushik Sarkar, Inspector of Mines (OH) and Certifying Surgeon, South Central Zone, Hyderabad was present during the inspection.

According to Dr Dhaimodkar, the government has made it mandatory for all workers working in the mines, to undergo first aid training for their safety, and for that purpose, the Directorate General of Mines Safety has started a process of recognising some private institutes to provide the training.

Dr Dhaimodker’s academy has been imparting first aid training for the last 20 years and with that expertise, the academy had approached the Directorate General of Mines seeking the recognition.
