PANJIM: Warning of strict action against those involved in grabbing government land, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Wednesday said that all the encroached land parcels would be taken back from encroachers.

“I have said this before too…main nahikhaunga, nakhanedunga(Neither will I indulge in corruption nor will I allow anyone to do so),” Sawant said, responding to a question over encroachment of government land that has come under the scanner of Special Investigating Team (SIT) on the land grab.

Sawant said that no one will be allowed to encroach upon and grab government land at any cost and strict action will be taken as per law against alleged encroachers.

“No encroachment on government land will be tolerated. All encroached lands will be taken back,” he said, adding that many more cases are yet to come under investigation.

The SIT had on August 1, registered anFIR against one Sociedade following a complaint filed by the Sanguem Mamlatdar that 73 properties, notified as government land, in the taluka, are illegally sold out, over a period of nine years from 2013.

“We had received a complaint from the SanguemMamlatdar. The land belongs to the government. The report sought from the Revenue Department revealed that the land has been sold out. The selling out of this government land has been occurring since 2013,” Superintendent of Police (Crime Branch) NidhinValsan had informed.

The SIT is registering FIRs. where investigating cases involve organised land grabbing syndicates. Of the 100 cases under investigation, FIRs are registered in 35 cases and nine arrests, including a lady, have been made so far.

Of the 35 cases, 28 have been transferred from other divisions and the Crime Branch has registered seven.
