GDP share of animal husbandry, dairying and fishery on decline

PANJIM: As per Central Statistics Office (CSO), Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI), the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) share of Goa’s animal husbandry, dairying and fishery sector has declined from the financial years of 2018-19 to 2019-20.

This is a decrease from the increase witnessed between the financial years (FY) of 2016-17 and 2017-18. This information along with that of other States was given by  the Minister of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying, Parshottam Rupala in the Rajya Sabha .  

Goa’s GDP per cent of the aforementioned sector was 1.90 per cent in 2016-17, and it had increased to 1.99 per cent in FY 2017-18. However, it gradually declined from then on, going down to 1.76 per cent in FY 2018-19 and then reducing further to 1.66 per cent in FY 2019-20. Incidentally, at 1.66 per cent the GDP % of Goa in this sector for FY 2019-20 is much lower as compared to the national average of 4.84 per cent 

The figures for FY 2020-21 were not shared. The Union Minister added that the Centre continuously monitors and reviews the progress of implementation of the programmes/schemes in the States/UTs through national and regional review meetings, field visits, video conferences, State review meetings etc.
