Goa police go ahead with controversial PSI recruitment

PANJIM: Even after several demands of scrapping of the controversial Police Sub Inspector (PSI) recruitment, the Goa Police has gone ahead with the process. A list of 145 selected candidates for the post of PSIs was published under the stamp and seal of the Director General of Police (DGP).

The Government had advertised the posts for recruitment of 145 PSIs, 134 Constables and 296 Home Guards in March 2021. The physical tests conducted for the above posts were caught in a controversy after it was alleged that the applicants who had failed the tests were illegally cleared. A complaint that two PSIs who had passed their tests had actually failed in the test was also filed.

Following allegations five committees headed by DySPs were constituted to review the entire recruitment process and also to scan the videos of the physical test of those PSI recruits, who were qualified to appear in the written test. It was found that they were shown as marked pass when they had in fact failed.

The Goa Police Establishment Board headed by DGP was supposed to take a decision on the inquiry findings in consultation with the State government. However, the Government has gone ahead with the recruitment process with 145 names in the list of selected candidates for the posts of PSI and 19 candidates in the waitlist.
