Goa roadmap declaration for G20 to be announced at the UN

PANJIM: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Tuesday stated that it is a proud moment for people of the State as the Goa roadmap declaration for G20 will be declared at the United Nations (UN).

Speaking on the sidelines of the inaugural session of the fourth G20 Tourism Working Group Meeting at Dona Paula, Sawant said that he welcomes the Goa roadmap declaration for G20 to be declared at the UN and that it is a proud moment for the people of the State.

He highlighted the efforts of Goa, the first State in India to receive the global Safe Travel stamp from the World Travel and Tourism Council India Initiative (WTTCII) and expressed the commitment of the State to reinvent its tourism sector in a more responsible manner following the Covid-19 pandemic.

Earlier, Sawant highlighted the appeal of Goa as a year-round tourist destination that attracts diverse travellers due to its wide range of tourism offerings. He stressed the importance of fostering an inclusive travel sector that prioritises sustainable travel experiences.

Sawant also said that Goa is an all-season tourist destination where there is something for everyone in this coastal paradise and tourists indulge in various kinds of water sports and experience the vibrant nightlife, attend musical events, cultural programmes and try out local cuisine.

Participating in the thematic discussion on ‘Making India a hub for cruise tourism; Samant remarked that Goa has immense potential and a robust shipbuilding and cruise industry. He highlighted that with a 'Make in Goa for the Globe' approach, the State is playing a pioneering role in cruise infrastructure development and invited investments for strengthening the cruise tourism industry. He also informed that a first-of-its-kind marine cluster has been introduced to boost the marine industry in the State.

The Chief Minister said that Mormugao Port will not be used for import and export but it will be used for tourism activities.
