PANJIM: In a major exercise ahead of presenting the State Budget 2021-22, the government has initiated the process to recover nearly Rs 83 crore, provided in the form of various grants, to departments and corporations, over their failure to utilise the money.

Following directions from Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant, the State Finance department had conducted an exercise to inspect the bank account details of different departments and autonomous bodies to oversee the expenditure done by them from the annual budgetary allocation made.

Accordingly, in a circular issued on January 5, the government has decided not to provide grant-in-aid to Goa Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education (GBSHSE) and Department of Fisheries, for having surplus funds.

At the same time, the government has identified ten departments and corporations, that have failed to utilize the grants – total amounting to Rs 82.88 crore – and accordingly, they have been directed to remit the funds to the State Treasury by February 20.

The Finance Department noted that Rs 15.70 crore provided to

DRDA towards implementation of PMGSY have been lying unused for several years.

The concerned secretaries of the departments have been directed to take up the matter on top priority and initiate action to remit the amount back to the State treasury and submit compliance report by February 20.
