Govt to digitalise co-operative societies in 6 months: Shirodkar

To bring in transparency and prevent malpractices

PONDA: Co-operation Minister Subash Shirodkar on Sunday said the government will introduce digitalisation in co-operative societies in six months to bring in transparency and prevent malpractices.

Shirodkar said, “People invest/deposit their money in co-operative societies with great trust, which is important factor for the success of the co-operative sector.” 

“Just because of mismanagement in few societies entire co-operative sector should not suffer. So, in order to bring in transparency and prevent malpractices in co-operative societies all organisations in the co-operative sector in the State will be digitalised in six months time,” the Co-operation Minister said.

Shirodkar was addressing after inaugurating the 7th Goa State Conference of Sahakar Bharati, at Rajiv Ghandi Kala Mandir, Ponda. 

On the occasion, present on the dais were Social Welfare Minister Subash Faldesai, former South Goa MP Narendra Savoikar, National President of Sahakar Bharati Dinanath Thakur, Sahakar Bharati Goa State President Prakash Velip and others.

The Co-operation Minister said, “The co-operative movement has prominently reached the masses with around 15 lakhs customers.” 

He said, “The State has around 5,000 co-operative institutes, which is double the educational institutes in State.” 

He also said that the government will try to set up marketing units before 2024 to help women and small farmers to market their produce. 

He urged the Goa Bagayatdar to cooperative self-help groups to sell their produce.
