Team Herald

PANJIM: The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an Orange colour warning for Goa from July 4-6, with possibility of very heavy rains.

In the last 48 hours, the State recorded close to five inches of rainfall. For the season so far, July 1, having recorded three inches of rains, is the wettest day.

With monsoon currents becoming active, the State is slowly covering up the rainfall deficit it recorded in the month of June, which ended up with nine per cent less rain than the normal average.

As per the IMD, the current rainfall deficit has come down to four per cent. Till date, the State has recorded 37.6 inches (955.8mm) of rainfall as against the normal average of 39.03 inches (991.5mm).

The IMD has stated that the State will receive heavy rains till July 3 and thereafter the monsoon will become more active resulting in very heavy showers.

The fishermen are advised against venturing into the sea during the period.
