PANJIM: The State government on Wednesday granted permission to ‘Sunburn Klassique’ Electronic Dance Music (EDM) festival, over a week after the State Level Permission Committee (SLPC) recommended granting NOC to the two-day event.

Tourism Minister Manohar Azgaonkar has said the approval is granted considering that Goa needs such festival to attract tourists. “Goa needs Sunburn Klassique so that domestic and international tourists come to Goa. We have given approval to the festival and forwarded (the file) to Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar,” he said.

Hours after the SLPC’s first meeting on February 11, the minister informed Herald the State should take advantage of this opportunity to boost tourism. “The government is going ahead with the festival,” he had said.

Percept Limited had earlier informed that they have proposed to hold the festival at Vagator on February 23-24. The recently held legislative assembly session saw the ruling legislators unanimous on government’s attempt to revive the EDM in Goa.

Sunburn has made a comeback this year donning this new look titled ‘Sunburn Klassique,’ through Goan businessman Shailesh Shetty, over three years after shifting the festival to Pune.
