MARGAO: The Commissioner of Railway Safety, Southern Circle, Bengaluru, is set to conduct the statutory inspection and speed trial run on the newly-laid double track line between Kaley and Curchorem-Sanvordem stations on Monday, March 11.

In anticipation of this important test, railway authorities have issued an appeal to the public, urging them to refrain from walking through or crossing the track during the inspection.

Once the inspection is successfully completed and the Commissioner issues the necessary certificate, the stretch of the new double line will be officially commissioned and opened for public use. This milestone marks the completion of the Vasco-Kalay stretch of the double-tracking project in Goa, making it the second partial double line stretch to be commissioned.

The double tracking of the Kalay–Curchorem (Sanvordem) section is part of the South Western Railway’s (SWR) Tinaighat-Vasco double line project. Notably, in October 2021, SWR commissioned the 15.2 km double-tracked Margao-Chandor-Sanvordem section, making it the first functional stretch along the Hospet-Hubli-Tinaighat-Vasco doubling-tracking project.

Sources indicate that SWR is preparing for the commissioning of the Majorda-Cansaulim stretch of the double track line within the next two months. Work on the Cansaulim-Vasco line is currently underway.

However, progress on the Collem-Kaley stretch is stalled as the Railways are awaiting various permissions from the authorities concerned.
