PANJIM: Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai has requested his Goa counterpart Pramod Sawant to provide a minimum of one to two acres of government land for construction of Kannada Bhavan in the coastal State.
In a letter to Sawant on September 20, Bommai has pointed out that his government has provided Rs three crore grants for construction of Konkani Academy in Mangaluru for promotion of Konkani language and literature in the Karnataka.
“I am very much happy to inform you that the Karnataka State Government has decided to fulfil the long pending demand of the Kannadigas who live in Goa for decades to have their own Kannada cultural bhavan at Goa. To accomplish the desire of our Kannadigas there, our Government has made provision of Grants in the State Budget 2022-23,” he said. The Karnataka government has announced release of Rs 10 crore towards construction of the Bhavan in Goa.
He said that Kannada speaking people in Goa have very cordial relations culturally and socially with Goans. “Hence it is our earnest request that Government of Goa also takes initiative in promoting the Art & Culture of Kannadigas and fulfils the much desired demand of construction of Kannada Bhavan in Goa,” the Karnataka CM said.
