MAPUSA: Local flower vendors operating in Mapusa Municipal Market have threatened to call for a Market Bandh on weekly market day (Friday) if the civic body fails to take action against migrant flower vendors in next three days.

In a written memorandum to Mapusa Civic Chief, flower vendors complained against migrant vendors operating illegally in the municipal market. They stated that due to illegal operation of migrant vendors, they are losing business and day by day it's getting tough for them to do the business.

Meanwhile Chairperson of Mapusa Civic Body Ryan Braganza informed that there are no migrant flower vendors in the market who are non Goans. “We checked the list of all the flower vendors and in the list every vendor is a Goan so here the Municipality has no role to play”.

Local vendors further said that several times they approached the civic body requesting to take action against these illegal vendors. However, every time the concerned authorities have overlooked this issue.

Local vendors also informed that they are also being threatened by the migrant vendors and doing business in such conditions is difficult for them. They demanded that the migrant vendors should clear the encroachments they have made on footpaths.

Meanwhile the vendors also filed police complaint at Mapusa police station against the migrant vendors for threatening them.
