Margao: Congress’ Curtorim MLA Aleixo Reginaldo Lourenco on Saturday alleged that the persons, who are allotted houses under the 20 point programme, are subletting, leasing and renting out the ground plus one houses.

There are issues with regards to the houses constructed under the 20-point programme scheme across Goa including Davorlim, Reginaldo said and alleged that the allottees are selling and subletting the houses.

"It is important to note that the plots under the scheme of 20 point programme are solely meant for providing affordable housing to the people of Goa, who do not have enough money to buy land at the exorbitant prices. Selling or subletting of these houses built on the land under the 20 Point Programme Scheme goes against its original objective," he said.

"All safeguards should be put in place for disallowing such transactions. If the original allottee/s is/are no more interested to stay in these houses under the 20 point programme then these houses should be returned to the government so that these abodes can be given to Goenkars, who are in grave need of a house" Reginaldo demanded.

The MLA claimed that the occupants of the houses are abusing the ground plus one house elevation.

"It has been observed that ground plus one house elevation under the 20 point programme is being misused for renting or leasing purposes. Such transactions should not be allowed under the prevailing law. Permission for elevation of ground plus one house should only be given if the original allottees’ family members including son or daughter or brother or sister who are going to reside in these houses," Reginaldo demanded.

He requested the Chief Minister to look into the matter so that the desired objective of the 20 point programme is not lost and demanded that all out efforts be made to prevent its misuse.
