VASCO: Mormugao Port and Railway Workers Union in a letter to the Mormugao Port Trust chairman has intimated their decision to go on an indefinite strike on or before December 15 listing their seven demands.

In the letter provided by a source from the Union, they have stated that the Union is serving a strike notice under the provisions of ID Act, 1947 for indefinite nationwide strike on or after December 15, 2021 by Major Port Workers- reg.

“We are enclosing a strike notice with its annexure intimating our intention to go on indefinite strike on or after December 15 as advised by the National Co-ordination Committee of five federations of Port and Dock Workers of Major Ports, demanding settlement/implementation of the demands highlighted in the annexure attached with the strike notice. We would request you to take expeditious step to consider our demands and avoid stoppage of work in the Port”, the letter stated. 

The union has put forth the demands which comprise immediate action be taken to discuss the rules of the Major Port Authorities Act, 2021 with the recognised federations as assured by the management; PLR 2020-21  be paid to the port and dock employees for the year 2020-21 as per the MoU reached between IPA and recognised federations of port and dock workers on June 14, 2019; The VDA eligible to the port and dock workers as per the statutory settlement dated August 30, 2018; freezed illegally w.e.f. January 1, 2021 to June 30, 2021  be refunded; negotiations of the BWNC should be started immediately to joint charter of demands submitted by the federations in order to revise the wage structure and other service conditions of the employees/pensioners w.e.f. January 1, 2022;  withdraw the anti-national anti-port and anti-labour decision of the Government of India to provide additional concessions to the corporates, PPP/BOT operators of the major ports; withdrawal the illogical and non productive decision of the Government of India to implement the national monetisation pipeline of the major ports and implement all the settlement/understands pending implementation including pensioners benefits of the employees and pensioners.
