For over three years there is four lane widening work of NH from Ponda Maruti temple to Khandepar Usgao over a seven km stretch of road. Though due to development work people have to face some hardship, the locals of Curti and Khandepar feels they have had to face a lot of hardship due to the absence of planning. A service road or sign board is not made available at Kerya Khandepar.

Dangerous hill cutting and landslides led to road closure of NH but according to them,   there are several hazards on this stretch to avoid further risks.

No doubt the NH authorities faced tremendous hardship in executing the work at Kerya Khandepar. For over hundred metres there was the hill side and valley on the other. The deep valley of almost 70 metres had to be land filled to level the road at kerya. It was not possible to provide service roads towards the side of the steep valley but certainly there were many chances to provide service road towards the hill side of the road, where exactly the NH Authorities failed to take care and cut the hill side straight at 90 degree causing landslides resulting in road closures

.  During March , April, May when hill cutting was progressing for road  widening locals, and people travelling on this road were surprised to see that the hill was being cut vertically at 90 degrees and at a height of 25 to 30 metres in a very dangerous fashion.  Even common layman criticised it but it was continued leading to landslide and there after it was labelled by locals as Man Made Disaster.

**A local at Kerya Rocky Dias said “ We had informed the Contractor and Engineers about possible landslide and rolling of rocks in the hill on road in rainy season but our opinion was ignored.  Scientific hill cutting with steps was not held. Even common layman was talking about the dangerous effect but we were ignored. Now result is seen by all of us.  The PWD officials says they had not acquired land then why they went to do the work and cut the hill dangerously posing risk to locals and commuters and Vehicles. They should have waited till the land was acquired”.
