Margao: The Department of Legal Metrology Inspectors seized Oximeters and masks for violation of Packaged Commodity Rules from pharmacies on Friday. This was in connection to the complained filed by GOACAN.

The organisation has also called on the Directorate of Food & Drug Administration (FDA) to issue necessary directions to all the Chemists & Druggists licensed by FDA to sell only those imported products that have the required importers name & license no displayed on the package to avoid penalties for violations under PCR; so that consumers are not cheated due to the sale of unauthorized products.

In a letter to the FDA Director Jyothi Sardesai, GOACAN said  a complaint was received about the sale of Pulse Oximeters with labels in violation of PCR.

In its letter to the Controller Legal Metrology Prasad S Shirodkar, GOACAN pointed out that besides Oximeters being sold in pharmacies, KN95 protective masks devoid of any label displaying Name of the Importer & Licence No, Date of Manufacture, Import, and MRP were being sold in shops selling mobile phones.

GOACAN called for taluka level Legal Metrology Inspectors to conduct inspections & book cases under PCR against these violators.

GOACAN has also requested the Controller in coordination with the FDA, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs Dept, and the Information & Publicity Dept to issue a fresh advisory for consumers giving details of what is required to be displayed on the product package as well as information as to where consumers can file complaints.
