PONDA: Congress candidate Roy Naik, who initially focused on corner meetings, has changed his campaign strategy and now concentrating on door-to-door visits.

According to Roy’s campaign manager Ashok Naik, the Congress candidate’s corner meetings were receiving huge response from the people, but those who attended the meetings began receiving threats from the rival group, hence they changed their campaign strategy.

“We have changed our strategy: instead of corner meetings, we are focusing on door-to-door and personal visits. Our silent supporters will play a major role in the election,” Ashok said.

Ashok said that Valpoi remained backward during past many years. “One can study only up to Higher Secondary in Valpoi; there is no college in the constituency, as such, many students dropped out of education after completing 12th,” he said.

Ashok Naik accused rival BJP candidate Vishwajit Rane of having tried to suppress the Bahujan Samaj by not providing them college education.

Terming Viswajit’s dealing with the people as dictatorial, Ashok said there is “a strong resentment is prevailing among the people of Valpoi constituency.”

He said that Congress was sure of winning 80 percent vote share in Usgao, which has a voter strength of 11,000.

Though Vishwajit has hold on this constituency, many Congress voters are hurt by his resignation and subsequently joining the BJP.

According to voters in Usgao and Valpoi, Vishwajit is facing a real challenge for the first time this by-election and that his election victory many not be a cakewalk this time around.
