PONDA: Ponda residents have demanded that stagnant water be pumped out from construction sites to prevent the spread of dengue.

With some policemen suffering from dengue, the residents complained that a plot in heart of the town has been dug for laying the foundation of a building which is filled with stagnant rainwater.

Viraj Sapre a local said that fogging should be carried out in the town.  Ponda Police Station surroundings are occupied with vehicles involved in accidents and court cases. These may be a perfect breeding ground for mosquitoes and as such they need to be checked for rainwater. Further the buildings under construction near the police station including PMC golden jubilee project should be inspected and cleared of stagnant water.

When questioned about the water stagnation in a plot dug in town for laying the foundation of a building since past few months, the municipality and heath officials assured to look into the matter.

The PMC officials said they would direct the owner to pump out the stagnant water from construction site.

The health officials said they have conducted fogging of police station and two other buildings nearby.

Ponda Police officials confirmed of some police were suffering from dengue.

Sanitary Inspector Ponda Health Centre Manoj Naik said, “Our staff is working hard to maintain the town clean and fogging is done at all places. We have carried out fogging of the police station and its surrounding areas twice and since the past four days there is no dengue case reported at the police station.”

He said only one dengue case was reported at Ponda Health Centre and though some policemen were suffering from dengue, they underwent testing at the different health centres in their areas.
