PONDA:  Ponda locals, under leadership of Sunil Desai gheraoed sewerage officials at Daag, Ponda office and questioned the latter on their frequent digging and slow progressing sewerage work. Long pending sewerage work for past around six year have turned Ponda roads bad to worse and almost unmotorable, they claim. Locals grilled the Sewerage Department AE Pradeep Gaude for digging and filling and again digging the same manholes. They are worried that if the sewerage work is not completed before election code of conduct then the hot mixing would again delayed, and they would have to endure the suffering for another one year.

Gaude heard the grievances patiently. Desai pointed out that the PWD officials were not ready to take hot mix carpeting work in the town citing pending sewerage work. Locals also inspected the long pending sewerage work on manhole at Daag, Ponda, which has taken almost a year.

Locals are irked to see no sign of completion of sewerage work by the Department and the bumpy rides causing health problems like back pain, Spondylosis and negotiating traffic jam has become a routine.

Locals opposed any further road digging until the existing manholes are leveled. Alleging that the work is going on without planning, they demanded work schedule of Sewerage Department and also the list of completed sewerage work so that at least part of town can be hot mixed before election code of conduct.

Gaude said that the  Ponda sewerage work is 95 per cent complete and rest pending work on 21 manholes including Daag Ponda , Khadpaband, Indira Market and Kavlem treatment plant, would be complete by January.

He claimed that hard rock formation underground at Daag Ponda caused the delay for which micro tunneling is being done for laying pipelines and it would completed only in January 2022. He said the sewerage network at Curti Panchayat is almost complete, however, sewerage treatment plant has not began as the Curti locals opposed to the Plant.
