P’yat asks owners of structures along Anjuna beach stretch to furnish documents

PANJIM: The Anjuna-Caisua village panchayat has asked owners having structures along the beach side to produce documents or licences within a week. 

The panchayat issued public notice following a survey report submitted to the High Court of Bombay at Goa, which has admitted suo muto petition regarding illegal constructions along the coastal belt of the Anjuna-Caisua panchayat. 

A joint survey carried out by the Goa Coastal Zone Management Authority (GCZMA) and the Anjuna-Caisua panchayat had found as many as 275 structures along the beach areas Now the owners have been asked to produce their documents and licences issued by the competent authority to verify whether these structure were legally approved or built in the No Development Zone (NDZ). Many structures have been found to be built with wood.

In October, the High Court while disposing a public interest litgitation (PIL) writ petition filed by one Ramesh Muzumdar has directed the GCZMA and the Anjua-Caisua panchayat to conduct a joint inspection of the structures along the beach and to submit a report. The court later admitted suo motu petition and has appointed adv Abhijit Gosavi as amicus curie.
