MARGAO: At an extraordinary gram sabha of Rachol Village Panchayat, various resolutions were passed including the need to highlight errors in the notified Coastal Zone Management Plan (CZMP).

Sarpanch Joseph Vaz stated that they found vital errors in the CZMP and will send their objections and list of corrections to the authorities.

Another resolution was passed for carrying out an assessment exercise for various taxes in the village.

The various village level bodies were also formed at the meeting. It was also decided to start preparing for Panchayat Day with various programmes and to get maximum participation from the locals.

The gram sabha members also congratulated the new panchayat body for taking up the installation of the Material Recovery Facility (MRF) shed.

The sarpanch also assured the gam sabha members that the panchayat body will work for sustainable development in the village and enhance the local body’s administration as  mandated in Panchayati Raj Act 1994.

Earlier in the day, the gram sabha, which began at 10 am had to be adjourned for 45 minutes due to lack of quorum as per the Act.

On this point, the sarpanch expressed disappointment that out of the 1,629 voters only around 25-28 locals usually attended the gram sabha meetings.
