Sacred coconut taken in procession from Margao to Zambaulim

MARGAO: The renowned Gulalutsav, also known as Gulal, of Lord Damodar in Zambaulim is set to be celebrated with grandeur and fervour on April 2.

The festivities commenced with the Shigmotsav of the Mathgramastha Hindu Sabha, marked by the sacred coconut's procession from the late Pandurang Keni's residence in Comba, Margao, to Zambaulim on Thursday, March 28. The coconut was worshipped with all religious ceremonies on March 27. 

Throughout the week, various religious and cultural events, including dramas, will be staged. For over a century, the Gulalotsav at Zambaulim has been celebrated with vigour and enthusiasm.

On Thursday, a procession with the holy coconut was taken along Abade Faria Road in Margao to Zambaulim by a large number of devotees.

The celebrations of the Zambaulim Gulalutsav will commence around 3 pm on Tuesday, April 2. The Navardeva procession will follow at 11 pm on the same day. The seven-day festival will draw to a close on April 3, with the dhoolpet ceremony.
