SIRLIM-DRAMAPUR: The Sirlim-Dramapur Village Panchayat on Tuesday removed all the illegal vendors squatting by the roadside along the Goa-Karnataka National Highway within their jurisdiction.

Deputy Sarpanch Olasrico Rodrigues said, “Today morning, we have removed all the roadside vendors including the fish vendors approximately 10 of them who were squatting by the roadside on the national highway.

“Velim BJP MLA and Water Resources Minister Filipe Neri Rodrigues, who has recovered from COVID-19, phoned and instructed me to clear all the vendors. If required, a sanitisation drive will be conducted in the village,” informed Olasrico.

He added, “The panchayat will write to the Electricity Department for assistance to undertake the pre-monsoon work of trimming the tree branches. We have already commenced cleaning of drains in the village.”

Interestingly, this sudden but much delayed action undertaken by the Sirlim-Dramapur Panchayat was the result of a social media post by a villager highlighting an online news portal report headlined as “Mushrooming roadside markets pose danger to commuters” that went viral in the village.
